The above endnotes provide additional information regarding international treaties, including those relating to narcotic drugs, and the actions of States parties. An explanation of each note follows:

  1. Reference to the League of Nations Treaty Series : This note refers to a specific volume of the League of Nations Treaty Series (vol. 198, p. 299). For further details on a particular treaty or convention, one may consult this collection.
  2. Note regarding China : For information relating to signatures, ratifications, accessions, etc., effected on behalf of China, reference is made to note 1 under "China" in the "Historical Information" section in the front matter of this volume. This note may include details of China's participation in the agreements or conventions mentioned.
  3. Note regarding the Czech Republic and Slovakia : For further information on the Czech Republic and Slovakia, see note 1 under their respective entries in the "Historical Information" section of the front matter of this volume. This may include details of state successions and the continuity of treaty legal obligations after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
  4. Denunciation by Pakistan : On 9 July 1965, the Secretary-General received a notification of denunciation from the Government of Pakistan. However, it is important to note that Pakistan had not formally notified its succession to the Convention. According to the international practice followed by the Secretary-General as depositary of multilateral treaties, Pakistan was not considered a Party to the Convention in question. Consequently, the denunciation has no legal effect since Pakistan was not formally bound by the Convention.
  5. Ratification by Spain : This note mentions that Spain has ratified the 1936 Convention in its unamended version. However, following the definitive signature of the Protocol of 11 December 1946, which amended several agreements, conventions and protocols on narcotic drugs, Spain became a party to the 1936 Convention as amended by the 1946 Protocol. This means that Spain is legally bound by the amended version of the 1936 Convention after having ratified the modifications introduced by the 1946 Protocol.

These notes provide clarifications on the different stages of ratification, succession and denunciation of international treaties and conventions, particularly in the field of narcotics.
