Brother Haze

The History of Haze

What is Haze?

The Haze is the most famous and most cultivated 100% Sativa hybrid cannabis strain throughout the world. Its origin dates back to the early 1970s, in the Santa Cruz region of California..

t this great time, two brothers known as the «Haze Brothers », cultivated and crossed cannabis plants from seeds of the best imported Sativa varieties, supplied to them by their friend and neighborSam The Skunkman .

It all started with a cross between a landrace (pure variety)Sativa from Mexico and another landrace Sativa from Colombia. The following year, the best females of this hybrid were crossed with a male of a landrace Sativa variety from South India. Finally, selected females of this hybrid were crossed with a male of a landrace Sativa from Thailand !

Haze is therefore a 100% Sativa cross of cannabis plants from Mexico, Colombia, India and Thailand..

It was not very stable then and therefore had many variations, the best known of them being the famous «Purple Haze », Colombian-dominant, which was the most powerful, the most beautiful, but also the most expensive weed on the market.

Sam The Skunkman then began to work these Haze Brothers seeds over several generations to create theHaze originale as we know it now. He then crossed the Atlantic in the early 1980s to settle in Holland and sell his seeds under the label "Cultivator's Choice ».

Haze has strong spicy aromas typical of this variety, sometimes with notes of incense or sandalwood, or lemony notes on the Thai side. It produces a powerful cerebral, psychedelic high, with no ceiling, incredibly clear and energizing!

However, as it is a 100% Sativa cannabis strain, it is difficult to grow indoors. The flowering period is indeed very long (more than 16 weeks), and the plants quickly reach large sizes. Haze was then crossed with Indica cannabis strains to make it easier to grow indoors. Sam The Skunkman proposed various crosses that can now be found at Seedsman, such as Haze/Skunk or Indian Haze.

A young Australian/Dutch man named Neville Schoenmakers, then owner of "The Seed Bank" which later became "Sensi Seeds Bank", collected some pure Haze seeds. He selected two excellent males “A” and “C”, as well as a female “B”, and created various crosses with Indica cannabis varieties. Thesehybrids de Haze were then available on the market, with immediate success !!!

Amnesia Haze, Super Silver Haze, Northern Lights 5 Haze, Super Lemon Haze, Neville's Haze, K13 Haze, ...

Among the new Haze Hybrids, the most notable of all was the cross Nothern Light Haze, who won the very first High Times Cannabis Cup in 1988. NL#5 was then the best Indica female on the market, and this 50% Indica / 50% Sativa hybrid was a superb success, still very successful today..

Neville then created other Haze-based hybrids for Sensi Seeds, such as the famous Silver Haze. He then left Sensi Seeds to work with his friend Shantibaba at Greenhouse Seeds. After Neville's departure, Sensi Seeds will create a few more Haze hybrids, such as the very famous strain « Jack Herer », in tribute to the famous American activist (RIP).

For their part, Neville and Shantibaba undertook a selection of more than 1000 NL#5/Haze plants outdoors. Two superb females were chosen and crossed with the same Skunk/Haze male, to create the excellent strains Super Super Silver Haze and Mango Haze! Just like Jack Herrer, Super Silver Haze andMango Haze are a breed ofgenetics Haze, Skunk#1 and NL#5, the three best hybrids available on the market.

Super Silver Haze was a huge success and won the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1998 and 1999. Neville then decided to create one last hybrid with an even strongerdominant Haze, and crossed his best female NL#5 X Haze « A » with an Haze « C » male, that cross will creat the Neville's Haze !! It is therefore a 75% Haze hybrid, which is not recommended for the inexperienced user, due to its extreme psychedelic potency..

Another famous Haze strain is known as Amnesia Haze, this is probably a selection from the Super Silver Haze strain. The Dutch breeder Soma also has a G13/Haze male from a packet of seeds given to him by Neville, it was the only seed in the packet to have germinated! However this male is of great quality.

Neville and Shantibaba left Greenhouse Seeds in 1998 and now work at Mr Nice Seeds, where new Haze hybrids are still regularly created. Following their departure, Greenhouse also offered new Haze hybrids, such as Arjan Haze #1/#2/#3, Arjan Ultra Haze #1/#2/#3, NL5/Haze Mist, Strawberry Haze and even thereSuper Lemon Haze.

Le breederAce Seeds also offers a very pure form of Haze, theOld Timer's Haze. This variety has never been crossed with Indica cannabis, so it is a true 100% Sativa Haze, with great genetic richness!! There are even plants of the type « Purple Haze ».

Cannabis strains that contain at least 50% Haze genetics:

Dutch Haze,Super Haze and Brainstorm (Dutch Passion),Mako Haze (Kiwi Seeds), G13/Haze (Barney's Farm),Cannalope Haze (DNA), La Niña (Mr Nice Seeds),DelaHaze (Paradise Seeds),Dhaze (Vulkania Seeds), Nevilles Haze Hybrid (Female Seeds), Moby Dick #1, #2 and Super Silver (Dinafem), Y Griega (Medical Seeds), Super Silver Bilbao (Genehtik), Botafumeiros (Sweet Seeds), and finally the news Amnesika de Philosopher Seed !

These cannabis strains also contain a fair amount of Haze genetics in their blood:Buddha Haze (Big Buddha), theRoyale Haze , Cloud #9 et Critica Haze (Resin Seeds), The Purple Haze#1, Claustrum et Cum Laude (Positronics Seeds), the Llimonet Haze (Elite Seeds), la Jack The Ripper (Subcool/TGA), the Jack Flash (Sensi Seeds), the Guanabana, Wombat and Santa Muerte (Blin Burn Seeds), without forgetting the K13 Haze de Philosopher Seeds !

Cannabis Haze

The name Haze has gained so much fame that it has become a generic term for crossing high quality Sativa cannabis varieties, even if they do not necessarily contain Haze genetics: we can thus cite theBangi Haze (Ace Seeds), laTasman Haze (Kiwi Seeds), or even the Utopia Haze (Barney's Farm).

Haze therefore represents the world reference for Sativa hybrids, and has shown its full potential through various crosses. Currently, more than half of the “new” strains hitting the market contain Haze blood! The strong cerebral power and spicy taste of Haze have made it famous, and the numerous hybrids have made it possible to cultivate this choice genetics indoors..

It will remain the safe bet for high Sativa lovers for a long time. !!

The Brother Haze of legends? Purists?

The "Haze Brothers" are considered legends and purists in the cannabis industry due to their meticulous and passionate approach to crossing Sativa strains. Their pioneering work in the 1970s, crossing Sativa landraces from diverse regions including Mexico, Colombia, South India and Thailand, resulted in Haze, a revolutionary strain at the time. Their relentless pursuit of quality and unique traits has not only established Haze as a global benchmark for Sativa hybrids, but has inspired an entire generation of breeders to follow in their footsteps. Through their commitment to preserving and improving original genetics, the "Haze Brothers" embody the purist and visionary spirit that continues to profoundly influence the cannabis industry.
