Shantibaba's Sea of Green

After more than 20 years of experience in cannabis cultivation, I remain constantly fascinated by entering a greenhouse or indoor space in full bloom. In this environment, several cloned plants are cultivated using the Sea of Green (SOG) technique. This method maximizes growth while ensuring a uniform height for the plants, allowing for a rapid and optimal yield.

Introduction to Sea of Green

The Sea of Green (SOG) is a cultivation technique developed to optimize space and maximize flower production per annual harvest. Experienced growers of clones are well-acquainted with this method, which provides a quick yield with cloned plants that evenly fill the growing space.

Unlike plants grown from seeds, where the quality and quantity of flowers are not guaranteed during the first harvest, the SOG method relies on the careful selection of proven clone mothers. To be cautious and keep options open, it is advisable to keep 2 or 3 of the best females and grow them in large quantities in the same space. This ensures that the selected mothers perform well in each cultivation cycle.

Principles of Sea of Green

The principle of SOG is similar to a chocolate cake recipe: by using a cloned variety, a desired result is achieved, generally in terms of grams produced with a set selling price if the quality is there. Thus, different growers can achieve similar yields per square meter by adhering to the same growing conditions.

SOG maximizes the use of growing space by manipulating the size and width of the plants through precise pruning techniques. This allows for increased yield and reduced crop rotation time. This method is ideal for both small growing spaces and large greenhouses.

Origin and Application of SOG

During my 8 years in the Netherlands, a country highly focused on economic efficiency, I learned a lot about the cannabis industry. Dutch growers were motivated by the idea of generating maximum profit with minimal space and manual labor. With the availability of clones, it was possible to dedicate the entire room to flowering, thereby increasing the number of harvests per year.

The SOG has been particularly useful in establishments that required different varieties for their menus, as it allowed for the efficient use of available growing spaces while meeting demand. This method is also practical for successful harvests, ensuring fields of healthy and lush flowers without any unused soil areas.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Sea of Green

Advantages:
  • Maximizing space: SOG uses all available growing space to achieve optimal yields.
  • Reduced turnaround time: Thanks to uniform and rapid cultivation, SOG allows rapid crop rotation.
  • Economic efficiency: Less manual labor and optimal use of space help maximize profits.
Disadvantages:
  • Clone addiction: The method relies on the use of clones, which requires a good choice of clonic mothers.
  • Uniformity of results: SOG can lead to excessive uniformity, which can be a disadvantage for those seeking diversity in their crops.

Conclusion

The Sea of Green is a proven technique that optimizes growing space and increases yields while reducing production costs. It is a method that has been refined over the years to meet the growing needs of the cannabis industry. By using this technique, growers can ensure abundant and uniform harvests, thus contributing to a more efficient and profitable production.
