Origin of Haze

Punto Rojo or Colombian Red at first and then Thai was added

Genetics Used and Breeding Date

    1. The first Haze strains were developed from crosses between Colombian and Mexican landraces. Thai genetics (Thai Brick), which were available in the United States, were not of very good quality at the time, which is why it was not added to the first Haze strains.
    2. The breeding process of the first Haze began in the 1960s and the Thai was incorporated in the 1970s.

Origin of the Name "Haze"
The term "Haze" refers to the psychedelic effects of LSD or mescaline trips, evoking a trip or haze. This name is linked to the psychedelic experiences the creators experienced.

Purple Haze and Jimmy Hendrix

Purple Haze genetics emerged after the first Haze strains, as a tribute to Jimmy Hendrix and his iconic song. The term "Purple Haze" refers to a special purple visual effect under LSD or mescaline, or perhaps even a special mix of the two. It's not a specific cannabis strain created by the Haze brothers, as many believe.

Development and Crossings

The Haze brothers developed their foundational crosses using Colombian and Mexican sativa genetics. The crosses were primarily imported seeds, creating a unique strain with distinctive characteristics.

Interests of the Haze Brothers

The Brothers Haze were also interested in natural drugs like LSD and mescaline. They were probably in contact with Jimmy Hendrix (I couldn't confirm this), I know that Cheiba Heimee was in direct contact with Hendrix's team. Is Purple Haze a tribute to Brother Haze? We probably never know.

Controversies and Rumors

The Haze brothers were two in number until Sam Skunkman added controversial stories to support his claims, a 3rd brother named G after Sam, one of their dealers and a "haze brother" at the same time, which many doubt. The Haze brothers were always known as 2. So it was this G who would have confirmed by telephone interview that Sam and the brothers alone had the official Haze.

Was it him (G) who gave the seeds to Sam rather than the Brother's Haze directly? This would explain why Sam then sold the old and better seeds from the batch to Neville, thinking he was passing on the less good ones... (We'll come back to this point later). This scenario makes sense when we know that Sam was in a difficult financial situation at that time and that he sold these seeds that he had obtained one way or another without even knowing which ones were more interesting to work with.

In his defense, Sam claims to have given Neville seeds dating from after 1970 which, according to him, were no longer basic hybrids... But this version is completely false. In reality, he was simply jealous that Neville refused to give him a share of the profits from the Haze he had selected, bred, stabilized and sold. This is understandable, given the high price that Sam himself had demanded for these famous seeds from the legendary Brother's Haze. In a way, the royalties had already been paid at the time of purchase... And what's more, had Sam shared the sale with the Brother's Haze???

Since that episode, Sam has been harboring a grudge against Neville, probably out of jealousy, whether it's because of this case or Neville's Cannabis Cup victory. In fact, he's spent a good deal of his time discrediting him with personal attacks, including calling him a former heroin addict and implying that they're all liars... A nice LOL is in order...

Flowering Time

  • Haze base from Brother's Haze: : Approx. 14-16 weeks.
  • Haze from Sam Skunkman : Approx. 8-11 weeks.
  • Haze from Nevil : Approx. 14-16 weeks.

Old Timmer Haze and Descendants

This strain is likely a descendant of Sam The Skunkman's Haze from after 1970. Ace Seeds claims to have original Haze seeds from the brothers, but these are not identical to the ones Neville

Histoiry

USA vs Europe

  • USA : Haze first became known in the United States in the late 1980s and early 1990s through the efforts of Neville Schoenmakers and international recognition for the cup won in 1989.
  • Europe : In Europe, the Haze gained popularity in the 1980s and later strengthened its notoriety with Neville finishing the selection to win titles.

Contributed by Sam Skunkman

Sam Skunkman was instrumental in spreading the Haze name and mainstreaming haze in Europe, hoping to acquire the best Haze available and make maximum money from seeds from Haze bothers. However, he failed to secure Neville's Haze and ultimately received limited recognition.

Neville's contribution

Neville acquired Haze seeds from Brother's Haze and brought them to Europe. He also added Thai genetics to enhance the strain and provide that terpene hit and molecular balance.

Impact of Thai on Haze

The Thai genetics added by Neville Schoenmakers brought a unique and sought-after aromatic profile to the United States, enriching the reputation of Haze and above all making it validated as it should be to win Cannabis Cups and have stable seeds.

Neville's Acquisition of Seeds

Sam Skunkman sold some old seeds to Neville, partly because he needed the money but also to make a quality final selection. Neville managed to obtain these seeds and developed his own strains from them.

So he didn't get the Haze seeds directly from the brothers, but rather by chance. Sam had just arrived in Holland, he really needed money and dedicated some of these seeds to Neville...He gave him the old stock (which contained the best Haze but with a lower chance of germination... but Sam didn't know that... or not yet). Neville managed to germinate seven of them and selected these monsters from them.

Condition of Haze at Time of Acquisition

They each had different seeds, Neville the seeds dating from 67, 68, 69, 70 unless I'm mistaken and Sam selfishly took the one after 70 thinking that it would be of better quality... LOL the strain was still in the testing phase and the brothers in 1970 had made a cross with Landraces which had not worked very well... surely with Thai Brick of the time... Neville therefore had the strains before the addition of this Thai or Indian and Sam those after....

Which Sam denies out of spite and says that he kept the old ones and Nevil the others..... If you know Sam a little you can imagine what he can do and say for money or fame...LOL

Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam

The Haze developed by Neville won the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 1990. In 1989 he won with Neville Haze (Pure Haze x Northern Light #5).

Timeline of Events

The Haze brothers began working on their strains in the 1960s. In the 1970s, they began adding Thai to finalize what was difficult for them because Highlands were rare in the USA, it was more like the ordinary Thai Brick from Laos or Cambodia. Neville acquired the seeds in the 1980s and won the Cannabis Cup in 1989 and 1990.

Contacts and Relations

Neville was very respectful of the Haze brothers, but not in direct contact with them. It was afterward that Neville really came into contact with the Haze brothers. It's true that Sam brought the seeds to Neville and introduced the Haze brothers' seeds to Europe.

Sam's relationship with the Haze Brothers

Sam Skunkman was their neighbor for a while. Sam was Brother Haze's neighbor, but Brother Haze didn't necessarily hang out with Sam because they weren't from the same generation. Sam was younger and didn't necessarily have the same ideas...

If the seeds were given by the brothers directly??? I'm not so sure!!! Maybe this famous G who had brought the seeds to Sam.

Sam's interest in adding Thai before Neville acquisition

Sam emphasized the addition of Thai to strengthen the Haze's reputation by showing its origin and genetic diversity. It was a bit like saying that not only Neville had done it and therefore he had nothing to do with the creation of Haze... Which is right and wrong, the Brother's and Neville added Thai, but not the same one.

Added Thai

The brothers most likely added the Thai from the 1970s onwards, but without any real success. The Thai was added to the Haze by Nevil Schoenmakers in the 1980s and won the cup and then achieved its true international success.

Adding Thai to Haze

Neville Schoenmakers added Thai to Haze to enrich the aromatic characteristics and improve molecular performance.

Haze Brothers Split

The Haze brothers split up in the early 1980s, mainly due to differences in the direction of their projects. This would require more research to truly answer this question properly, so I'm not sure what I'm saying.

Celebrity in the United States

Haze became truly famous in the United States after the Cannabis Cup victory. Thanks to the fame of Brother Haze, Neville's efforts to refine Haze, they created an international buzz around the strain, as well as Sam for his communication and the importation of the genetics to Europe, without which Haze would surely have been different.

Conclusion

  • Creators of the Haze :The Haze Brothers laid the foundation for the strain. Neville Schoenmakers perfected the genetics and added a crucial element with his exceptional Thai strain. Sam Skunkman solidified the Haze name and helped spread it throughout Europe and around the world.
  • Musical Example. : If we compare it to music, the Haze Brothers are the original creators of the track, Nevil Schoenmakers is the producer who finalized and mastered the sound, and Sam Skunkman is the commercial promoter who helped bring Haze to the public and brought 2 legends together for an exceptional job. Detailed informationHERE
  • Is there really Thai in the haze?:Not sure, but Sam has everything to gain by saying there were already some.
  • Is Neville the creator?:I doubt that Brother Haze had an agreement with Neville to add his Thai and improve the strain to an international level. What we can blame Neville for is that he used the same name "Haze" he should have created his own name.
  • So who is the real creator?: To see all this with a purist's eye, let's look at who really made money with this strain... The only one who could be given the purist medal who really helped the community and even some addicts to stop taking heroin is the Brothers, so thank you Brother Haze..

Let's conclude this properly! with La Haze as a musical work :HERE
